Giles Watling MP, Member of Parliament for Clacton and Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Chess, attended ChessFest last week in Manchester Square Gardens.
Held annually, ChessFest is a three-day event separated into two events: a smaller event in Manchester Square Gardens, for students around the country to attend and learn how to play chess; and a larger public event in Trafalgar Square, where thousands will get the opportunity to take part in the game.
Visting Manchester Square Gardens to talk to those organising the event, as well as meet students visiting from around the country to play the age-old game, Mr Watling said:
"I have grown up with chess thanks to my father, and it as stayed with me throughout my life. I am so pleased to see future generations engaging so readily, and it fills me with hope that we will see more and more British grandmasters as the years go by."
