Giles Watling, MP for Clacton, is celebrating £2.7 million of National Lottery funding being awarded to local community projects across the constituency. The money, raised by players for good causes, is being distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
Giles attended an event in Parliament on 3rd March with the Fund, which is responsible for giving out money raised by National Lottery players for good causes. He heard about the community projects that are receiving funding and the difference they make.
Following the event, Giles is now calling on local groups to find out how to apply for a National Lottery grant. Funding starts from just £300 and 90% of the grants made are for under £10,000 – going to grassroots groups and charities that are bringing to life amazing ideas that matter to their communities.
Information about how to apply for funding can be found at The National Lottery Community Fund’s website: www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk.
The National Lottery Community Fund supports charities, community groups, and people with great ideas – local or national, large or small, no matter what their starting point. Last year The National Lottery Community Fund awarded over half a billion pounds (£511.1 million) of life-changing funding to communities across the UK and supported over 12,000 projects to turn their great ideas into reality.
Elly de Decker, Director of England Grant Making at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this funding will help to improve lives in the local community. We know that people understand what’s needed in their communities better than anyone else – that’s why when people are in the lead, communities thrive.”
Giles said: “It’s fantastic to hear that £2.7m of National Lottery funding has gone to community projects in our area. This has gone to a diverse range of groups, which are inspirational in the great work and support they provide to local people. Thanks to their effort and dedication, National
Lottery money is helping communities to thrive, and I would urge anybody else in my constituency with a great idea to see what funding they too could secure.”
