Giles Watling MP has today welcomed the news that Clacton-on-Sea has placed 13th in the country in this year's RightMove Top 20 'Happy At Home' index, making it one of the happiest places to live.
The annual survey asks 26,000 people how they feel about their area, and then ranks them nationally.
Mr Watling said:
"All year we've seen negative headlines from journalists looking to talk down Clacton just to generate content for websites and fill papers. I am ecstatic with the news that in fact Clacton is 13th nationally as one of the happiest places to live, and I know that the effort that local residents, volunteers, business owners, services, and charities have contributed to this.
Tackling antisocial behaviour, bringing £78m worth of investment into our constituency, and constantly fighting for the name of this town I hope has also gone some way in helping residents to feel proud of their community. Clacton is an amazing place to live and I hope that the public and private sectors recognise this when they decide where to invest in services, infrastructure, and people.
I'm not surprised by these results. We have 36 miles of beautiful sunshine coast - the best anywhere in the country, a charming bucolic hinterland, and a happy and relaxed population all located on this peninsula. Well done Clacton!"
