Giles Watling MP, Clacton's man in Westminster, is delighted to read that Rowan Moore, Architecture Critic of the Observer, has declared the Sunspot project in Jaywick one of the top 5 buildings in the UK in 2023.
Mr Watling, who opened the development back in September, views the news as vindication of the power of investment into the local area.
"Often when people talk about Jaywick, or it appears in headlines, it is the national media talking it down or writing it off. And yet here we are, with recognition of the Sunspot project and the positive contribution it has made to the town.
I was overjoyed when the project was announced - £7.9m worth of investment into Jaywick is not to be sniffed at! But I am now even prouder that the development has been recognised in this way and is generating positive coverage for Jaywick and our constituency. My thanks go to the designers at the HAT Project, and Tendring Council, for helping to make this possible.
Now our mission is to see that more investment comes to Jaywick and other areas in the constituency - let's ensure that this headline is the first of many."
The Sunspot investment is in addition to the further £78m that Giles Watling MP has secured for the Clacton constituency, which includes upgrades to the high street, town, hospital, and for levelling up the community.
