Giles Watling MP last night spoke in the House of Commons to commend the Autumn Statement by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, but questioned the Government's approach to small and medium-sized businesses. This approach, Mr Watling believed, hampered growth and The Government should focus policy more on big businesses that can afford changes more easily.
Mr Watling also commended the Government's commitment to maintaining the Triple Lock, which he said he was 'thrilled' to see after campaigning for three months to retain it.
The MP for Clacton also:
- Welcomed the halving of inflation
- Celebrated the £78m worth of investment into Clacton to level up the constituency
- Called on Jaywick and Clacton to see the benefits of the Freeport expansion
- Reiterated his pledge to be Clacton's Man in Westminster, not vice-versa
- Called for more support for hospitality and social care sectors, and highlighted the need to protect them from increasing costs
The budget saw pensions increase, as well as a national insurance cut set to give the average worker back £450 a year.
