Giles Watling MP, Member of Parliament for Clacton, has welcomed the news that Number 10 has responded to his calls and has committed to a further £20m investment in Clacton from the next round of Towns Funding.
This figure is new money and will be in addition to the previous £20m Mr Watling helped the council secure to develop the town, as part of the Government's Levelling Up Agenda.
In a statement, Mr Watling said:
"I have always said levelling up cannot just be from South to North, it must also be sideways; Clacton is just as deserving of support as many of these other areas. I am so pleased to be able to announce that we have a £20 investment coming for in the Town Fund for Clacton. This is on top of the £20m for the Civic Quarter, and on top of the £18m for Clacton Hospital. We are still pursuing further funding for Clacton but this is £58m now. I've been banging the drum for Clacton constituency for years now, and I'm pleased Central Government is listening. We are on the move in our fantastic constituency. The government believes in Clacton- thank you."
The £58m sum comes as Mr Watling continues to push for investment from the public and private sectors into the constituency.
