Giles Watling with Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin MP, at Clacton station
Rail travel is on the rise across our region and demand for increased services is growing locally.
As well as the station at Claction itself the area also has stations at Thorpe-le-Soken, Weely, Kirby Cross, Frinton and Walton. However services are typically only once an hour and certain routes are slower than they were a century ago.
As a first step to improving local train services Giles Watling is campaigning to double the number of trains which run on certain routes. He is lobbying Abellio Greater Anglia, the train operating company, and has brought the Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, to Clacton station to show him the issue first hand.
Giles Watling said: “The service is too infrequent, slow and the stock needs improving. More frequent services is my first step because it will draw more visitors to the area, help local businesses and benefit commuters.”
