Conservative candidate Giles Watling brought Environment Secretary Liz Truss MP to meet with farmers near Weeley to discuss the best ways to help our rural economy.
Giles Watling said:
"With such a beautiful coastline, and the benefits of tourism that Clacton, Frinton and Walton enjoy, some people forget about our rural community inland. As a vital part of our local economy, if elected I will bang the drum for our rural community in Parliament to ensure they have a strong voice that will stand up for them."
Liz Truss, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said:
“Food and farming is a core priority for this Government, so it was a real pleasure to be invited by Giles to meet local farmers. I want the industry to be number one in the world and as I saw for myself, Essex farmers are playing a key role in this, producing tasty food in innovative ways.
“Conservatives will continue to go into bat for our farmers, not least on the Common Agricultural Policy, ensuring that they have a secure future and are able to compete with the best in the world.”
