GILES QUESTIONS LOCAL AUTHORITY POWERS FOR PRIVATE CAR PARKS

Giles Watling, Member of Parliament for Clacton, questioned the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government if he plans to strengthen local authority powers to regulate private car parks.

Having received a large number of enquiries by local residents regarding unfair car parking fines, Giles asked the Secretary of State whether he plans to strengthen the powers given to local authorities to regulate private car parks, a suggestion that may see a reduction in unfair practice that sees residents saddled with parking charges.

Giles said

“Many residents in Clacton have fallen foul to sharp practice that renders them with parking charges unfairly. I am keen to pursue possible solutions that would make this practice more difficult and one such solution could be strengthening the powers given to local authorities to regulate private car parks. I was pleased to hear that the department are considering reforms of the private parking sector which will help tackle these unfair practices.”
