Giles Watling, Member of Parliament for Clacton, returned to school recently during a visit to Oakwood Infant and Nursery School.
Headteacher Mrs Kathy Maguire-Egan invited Giles to give an assembly to the pupils aged between 4 and 7 years old. Giles was delighted to accept the invitation and during his thirty minute assembly he told the pupils all about his new role as an MP, the different roles and responsibilities elected officials carry out from Parish to Parliament and touched on his life before politics.

“Over the past couple of weeks I've been lucky enough to visit most of our fantastic schools. The minute I stepped through the door of Oakwood Infant and Nursery School I knew I had arrived somewhere special. The atmosphere and enthusiasm was infectious, from staff to pupils, they all loved being at school.
The children were fascinated about Parliament, particularly when I described it as a building similar to Hogwarts!
I would like to thank all the staff and students for a fantastic morning and I am looking forward to my next visit.

"I was delighted to welcome Giles Watling MP to our school.
His talk to the children was most enlightening and the children asked him some very interesting questions.
They enjoyed Giles’ visit immensely and I was extremely pleased with the children's good behaviour.”
