Giles Watling, MP for Clacton, and Parliamentary colleagues have met with representatives of Essex County Council, to receive an update on their work across the County.
At the meeting, which took place on 4th February 2020, Essex MPs were briefed on the Council’s improvements to social care, the management of education funding in Essex, and work being done by the Council to address environmental challenges.
The meeting was attended by Council Leader, Cllr David Finch, and other Cabinet members, along with Council officers. And, in terms of outcomes, the meeting ended with a commitment from Essex MPs to continue pressing the Government ahead of the Budget on fairer funding for schools in Essex, increases to the SEND budget, and social care funding. The group will reconvene for a future meeting on the Council’s waste disposal strategy.
After the meeting, Giles said:
“I thank Cllr Finch and representatives of Essex County Council for coming in and briefing myself and my Essex colleagues. Sessions like these, which promote constructive discussions between ourselves and our local authority, are extremely valuable and I will continue to attend to raise the issues in my mailbag. Just let me know if there is anything you want me to raise!”
